Windows to the Soul

Silhouettes cast on dust coated windows
filmy faces beside toasters and hotpots
    no longer functional
        thrown upon dirty sills
        not needed or wanted

we peer in
    unconnected
    separated by condition
        and unable to identify

these lives we will never truly know
    collecting articles
    to give them worth
        if just to hold something

they hide
    behind broken blinds
       unwilling or uncomfortable
        to share their meagre realities

they move among us
    invisible 
                    because we choose not to see
