NaPoWriMo - Day 27

Day 27 -  write a poem inspired by an entry from the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows.*

Grief

It haunts me
    while I sleep
    while I dream
    while I wander
            aimless

I see it in stucco walls
        in clouds
        in crowds

where I know you wouldn't be
    shouldn't be
        couldn't be

and I quietly mourn
knowing I'll only see you again
      in my soul's shadow

faceless, but unforgettable

-Lisa

*waldosia
n. [Brit. wallesia] a condition characterized by scanning faces in a crowd looking for a specific person who would have no reason to be there, which is your brain’s way of checking to see whether they’re still in your life, subconsciously patting its emotional pockets before it leaves for the day
