April 26, 2022 - write a poem that contains at least one of a different kind of simile – an epic simile. Off script again today.
Firelight
As I gaze into the flames
I will the future to show itself
the door remains locked
the key elsewhere,
I will the future to show itself
the door remains locked
the key elsewhere,
hidden and unreachable
I cannot find it
I cannot find it
I tear myself away
afraid
scared of what I will find
if I stare too long
scared it will swing open
scared it will remain closed
both leave choices - forks in the road
no grey areas
no turning back
no regrets
And so I must be content
to watch the flames die
and with it, my hope - at least for now
but I know another day
another fire will light
